Apartment fire damages four units in Gresham

ADVERTISEMENTS

Gresham Fire and Emergency Services crews were called out around 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 23, to the Gresham Townhouse Apartment in the 1200 block of East Powell Boulevard in response to a two-alarm fire that damaged the apartment complex.

Investigator said the fire started in a second-floor apartment and flames then spread into the attic. Smoke and water damaged four units and one person suffered minor burns to their foot.

The person was treated at the scene, said Jason McGowan, Gresham battalion chief.

The cause of the fire has not been determined. The estimated damages are around $200,000.

A man in the apartment who woke up after a two-hour nap said he started a blender he keeps in his bedroom and heard a “loud percussive noise” and saw “fire at the ceiling and all around him.”

A woman in the apartment was awakened by a shouting roommate.

The Oregon Trail chapter of the American Red Cross is helping two people displaced by the fire with food, clothing and shelter.
